Individual counseling is offered through the school year to students in a confidential setting. Students may request counseling themselves by putting a note in the counselor's mailbox or asking their teacher if they can see the counselor. The parent/guardian of a child, teacher, or administrator may also refer a student.
School counseling is goal-oriented and generally short term in nature. A variety of techniques are used depending on the concern including active listening, bibliocounseling, artwork, modeling, board games, and role play. If a student needs ongoing therapy, the counselor will facilitate a referral to an outside mental health provider.
